I can’t believe that this Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. It seems some of us have just finished packing up our Christmas decorations. This leads me to think about how fleeting life has become. Some of us are optimistic and look to the future and all the years we have left. Many of us, understandably, look over our shoulders and see so many years behind us. At age 83, I try to do both but also realize that most of my years are behind me.
Lent is a good time for reflection. Do we look back and see wasted years? Do we feel we are growing or just existing? Have we learned anything yesterday that will make us a better person tomorrow? These are the questions all of us should be asking ourselves especially during Lent.
To this end, I am spearheading presentation/discussion sessions on Silent Prayer: The Process of Discovering Yourself. During the Sundays of Lent, we will meet after the 11:00 mass in the Gathering Room.
Silent prayer in its essence is nothing more than putting ourselves in the presence of a loving God without saying a word. How can we discover ourselves in silent prayer? That is what is so interesting and that is why I offer you the opportunity to continue to expand your spiritual life in such a way.
I hope you’re curious and join us on Sunday mornings for a hour. I look forward to seeing you there. All ages are welcome because learning is an ongoing exercise at any age. It is different than the norm but that is what makes it so compelling. I will share my experiences with you since I have been in silent prayer for many years now.
